Top Reasons For A Stay At The Atlantis Resort In Nassau, The Bahamas

If you've never had the chance to travel to the Atlantis Resort in the Bahamas, it's one place that you have to try! The resort is like a journey to another world, nestled on the shores of Paradise Island in Nassau, the Bahamas. It's incredibly scenic with sprawling coral and pink towers overlooking coves, bays, and the beautiful waters of the Bahamian Islands. Once you are all nestled into your beach or poolside room, you have the chance to explore all the tropical fish and aquarium activity, the dolphins, and the Atlantis "dig" that is uncovering all the ancient artifacts...

The whole concept of the resort is the long lost island of Atlantis that Plato wrote about many years ago, and that some say is located near or in the Bahamas. Divers have found strange stone "roads" underwater on at least one of the islands. Atlantis Resort has turned that into a theme, where they have created "digs" on property that you can tour and see some of the strange and wonderful discoveries that were found under the surface or water. You can also enjoy the many tropical aquariums loaded with exotic species of fish, including the Pacific Manta Ray which was one of my favorites. They have at least two of them and they are fun to watch as they glide their massive bodies through the water and gracefully swim all around showing off.

There is a tunnel that you can explore with ruins and is part of the Atlantis dig, which also has fantastic views of the underwater habitat of the many types and varieties of fish in the many tanks. These are not just internal local aquarium type tanks, they are open to the environment in natural pools and some of them also interconnect. There are sharks of different species swimming back and forth from pool to pool, and the resort makes it very easy to view them with various bridges and other high points all around. There are wonderfully landscaped walkways all over the property, and you could spend most of the day just exploring the different areas and venues.

They have at least 3 tropical themed pools at the Atlantis Resort, with plenty of activity at each one, and a special kiddie pool for the young ones. If you're interested in a little more active play, then try your hand at swimming with the dolphins in their own large enclosed lagoon! For an extra fee, you can get into the water with the dolphins and go through a program where you can interact, touch, and swim with them. This program is very popular, so make sure to book your reservation as soon as you arrive at the resort!

How about some snorkeling? They have a fantastic cove right on the beach that is very protected from any heavy waves from offshore, and has incredible clarity and also many beautiful tropical fish of various kinds. Be careful though, there is one species that should not be there, and that is the lovely Lionfish, or Scorpionfish! This fish is originally from the Pacific tropical areas, and they imported them to Atlantis for use in their outdoor aquariums and fish tanks. However, there was an accident of some kind and some of them were released into the ocean by mistake, and they have since thrived all around the area and up and down the Atlantic U.S. coast! I found at least one of them in the secluded snorkeling cove at the Atlantis Resort, and they do have poisonous spines which you do not want to touch or accidentally step on, so it's always a good idea to wear footwear of some kind while you're in the ocean.

Be wary of the prices at the Atlantis Resort also, for it is NOT an all-inclusive resort! Just about everything is an extra fee and can really increase the total cost of your stay. There are many great restaurants, but none of them are included in your stay and you can pick and choose between them for an additional charge. If you're looking to save a little money, there is a great marina restaurant strip just off the property within a couple minutes walk that will probably have much better prices than the resort, and you'll want to go there anyway for some shopping opportunities.

Anyway, I hope you all get the chance to visit this great resort, even though it's a little pricier than many others due to the fact it's not an all-inclusive resort you will definitely want to try it out at least once! You'll enjoy the many swimming areas and slides in this massive water park and aquarium, and be sure to take lots of pictures! It's a great place to go and decompress from the stress of everyday life. Have fun!
